hamburger and fries, green tea latte and her company

Yesterday I went to Jakarta, attending a new store opening at Plaza Indonesia. But what I really looking for is to meet my bestfriend, Nurul. We ate at Kitchenette, hungry, I ordered one big burger and fries. It was great, having her to hear my rubbish talk was nice. She’s the only one who can get me. Do you ever have a bestfriend who can be mad at you but at the same time take care of you? if you do, you’re lucky. I’m lucky to have her. Specially at moment like this. There we are, sitting with lemon tea and green tea latte in front of us, talking about things and a little bit bewildered that future has so many surprises for us. we kinda swirl out of control and it’s scary as hell. as I sip my green milky liquid I said to her, ‘but at least I have you’.

oh yes, and I met Fahril and Edo as well. Edo as I know that you read my blog religiously, I hate to admit this but I’m kinda miss you and your evil comment on anything moving. :p you’re a jerk, but we’re all a jerk once in a while right? 😀

vogue and ramen on sunday

Sunday.

I spend most of my Sunday sleeping. It feels soooo nice. The rain is pouring and I was just chilling at my bed with lulu, after that I drove to town with my sister Sasa, picking up my late magazines from the magazine guy at Cikapundung (he sells imported magazines with reasonable prices and Sunday is the only time I can drive there and pick them up) then, we have ramen and matcha latte at Kedai Ling Ling.

It took toooo long for the ramen and by the time it served we’re not hungry anymore, but because we know the owner (who is very nice) we ate those spicy thick ramen soup with half -hearted (and drove home nauseated) LOL.

Anyway, nice sunday it is.

green tea is the new black

I write too much reviews about food.

anyway, green tea, which popular on its first time for a healthy drink, changed become the new it beverages. Of course, it transform into ice cream, milkshake, frozen yoghurt, cakes. In the expensive beverages, you can taste the bitterness of green tea, but in the cheap one,  they use green tea powder that make the drinks green but not a real green tea essence.

anyway, I love the taste, whether it’s the cheap one or not.

Green Tea Ice Cream w/ Apple Crisps @ Arisan

This one tasted gooooooooooooodddd, although it is a bit pricey, but you can taste the ‘bitterness’ of green tea here. I heard Arisan imported this ice cream from Japan. Well, this ice cream really worth it.

Frozen Green Tea @ Ngopi Doeloe

Frozen Green Tea @ Ngopi Doeloe

I am 90% sure they use ‘green tea’ powder. It doesn’t even tasted like green tea. But I like it anyway. It’s sweet with thick whipped cream. so much for a healthy drink.

Matcha, Ogura and Vanilla ice cream @ Zenbu

Matcha, Ogura and Vanilla ice cream @ Zenbu

Zenbu is the first place I ever tried Matcha (green tea) and Ogura (red bean) ice cream. Combined with Vanilla, they make a perfect trio. I always ordered this for dessert at Zenbu, unfortunately they changed their menu. It have green tea ice cream on it, but they make it into parfait. Good, but not as good as the plain one.

Green Tea Cheese Cake @ Cizz

Green Tea Cheese Cake @ Cizz

I luuuuuuuvvv Cizz’s cheese cakes. Although my fave is the blueberry cheese cake, this one is good too. I once drove to Setiabudhi Plaza just to bought one of these green tea when the waitress said it’s already sold out, and I found out, the girl sit next to me bought the last piece. Nuy had to told me to stop gave the girl an ‘angry look’ and just eat my damn blueberry cake.

Because women can’t get enough of chocolate

as silly as the axe ad sound, it is true. Lately, chocolate shop is blooming everywhere in Bandung. Last afternoon, before visiting my sis on hospital (really, I’m so getting used to the hospital foodcourt, I make friend with the waitress there) me and Nuy visiting Toko Coklat (indonesian for ‘chocolate shop’).

my little sister are crazy about their ganache rum chocolate, while my favourite is choco rum ball. . But what more interesting from this little shop, is well, the building itself. They have this minimalist little building with framed glass wall on the facade, so you can see inside the store from the road.

this what the front store looks like. the warm light inside the store are so inviting. Building attract buyers. In this case, is so right.

the interior is simple and clean, with sets of table so you can enjoy their cakes while drinking hot chocolate. Look outside, the green scenery is really suited the building. perfect. we had a great time choosing our chocs, it have liquers, filled with rum, mint, cakes, truffles, cookies. so much fun.

Afternoon tea with pancakes

this afternoon, rain washed Bandung and I think it’s a nice afternoon for a hot tea and snack. After me and my mom picked up my sister, we hit the hippest and talked of the town little restaurant, called Nanny’s Pavillon. In Bandung, the little city with too much cafes and restos, finding a good place to eat it’s not really a hard job. You can have two new places everyweek. But the buzz about this new restaurant is kind of, well, buzzing hard.

It specialization are pancakes and waffles. I ordered banana pancake, peach pancake for my mom, and steamed mushroom rice for my sister. For our drinks : banana milkshake (my sister), hot cocoa (mom’s) and hot tea for me. The interior are nice, it is semi-outdoor, and I think the theme is ‘a nice garden party in your granny backyard’, the furniture are painted white, and the wall are in lime green and white stripes. It is very refreshing. My favourite are the white rattan lamp.

We wait eagerly for our food. the rice came first, and I kind of  surprised for the time taken for the pancakes to brought to our table. My sister almost finished her plate of rice when the pancakes arrives. Now, I tried pancakes, and well, I kind of hoping the pancake here is somewhat special. But to my dissapointment, I don’t find anything special in my pancake (well, I tried my mom’s too and she agree it’s not that special). Of course it’s good. But it really just a regular pancake that make me nausea after the seventh bite.  (I can’t handle too much sugar on food).

First, when the menu said banana pancake, I thought, the pancake have banana on it (blended, like banana cake), but it really just chops of banana on the batter, same things on my mom peach pancake. I think an additional fresh fruit (like peaches for peach pancake) on the side plate would be nice to freshen up our mouth after those sugary pancakes.

Second, the service is not really good. We had a hard time to called the waitress to take an order, then a hard time too for asking a maple syrup (cause they forgot to brought it the first thing). It’s completely understandable because the place is packed and maybe they short on staff, but it’s irritating nonetheless.. but I give point for their uniform, it’s cute.

Anyway, I want to try again though, but no pancakes next time for me. (I see people ordering Nanny’s Punch-their signature punch, I’ll try it next time). Oh, and maybe you want to make a reservation in the weekend (though I don’t know if they take a reservation), because you might sitting pretty in the -waiting list chair-, it is the hype for now, really.

And don’t eat pancakes with full stomach, it’s not meant to be a dessert.

indonesian dishes # 1

Indonesia has tons of food, in Bandung alone I can find more than 50 kind of snacks and foods, that’s not included european/japanese/another asian kind of dish. This week, my mom and me visited one of the oldest restaurant in Bandung, Lumpia Semarang. The restaurant name is actually a kind of food, which it sell, the infamous lumpia semarang.

this is the front look of the restaurant, if they don’t put the signage, it looks just like an ordinary house.

Nasi Uduk

Nasi Uduk

the restaurant have another kind of indonesian dishes too, this is Nasi Uduk,  rice cooked with santan (a juice from a coconut flesh), served with Gepuk (cow meat), when it cooked it was punched until it flat (gepuk is a javanese word for punch or hit). It have it’s own sambal (it’s the red spicy thing, Indonesia food usually ate with sambal, and I tell you we have hundred kind of sambal), Emping chips (it was made from melinjo nut, very high cholesterol, very delicious) and a cucumber to freshen up your mouth.

Tahu Campur

Tahu Campur

this is what my mom ordered, Tahu Campur (in english it would be scrambled tofu), the fried tofu comes with vegetables and a peanut/soy sauce and served with prawn chips (yes, Indonesia has a lot kind of chips too). Because this is a Middle Java restaurant, the Tahu Campur different from our family usually had, from East Java. It is more sweet and didn’t use Petis (a kind of stuff made from prawn that used as a ingredients in food)

Sambal

Sambal

this is sambal for tahu campur, it’s a green chili crushed, we called it rawit and more hot than the red chili.

we stepped out with a full stomach.

hope I can post another indonesian culinary.
