new hair, gifts and a girl’s pride December 5, 2010

new hair.

I cut and permed (again) my hair. result = it becomes messy curly and I look like just got out of bed without my headband on. but I like it. anyway, I always love doing things with my look. My friend Nuy collects photo of me since highschool and we laughed at my past looks! I can’t count how many times I change my hairdo. Long and straight, long and wavy, short and straight, medium and curly, medium and wavy, bangs, brown, red.

Not only hair, I do stupid and crazy things too with clothes. My mom always complaint about how I mixed my clothes, but Nuy said this when she bought a top she liked (but not so sure it would looks good on her), “I remember you and I just bought it, I don’t care what other’ll think”.

True, I never really care what others will think, let alone hear their negative comments. Oh yes, I got that all the time. Believe me. But at some point, I just don’t care too much. So what? It just clothes. Most importantly, it’s mine. I can do whatever I want with it.

Speak of fashion, I just got a present, a super cool Mango capelet from Hendra. I’ve been eyeing this for months so it’s just great. It really helps since now it’s Bandung in rainy season and I’m using angkot and ojeg most of the time. Last saturday after work, I’m strolling down Dago street with my new capelet, it’s drizzled and wet everywhere. I love this kind of afternoon.

And gift. My mom said never received gifts from men, because it bad for a girl’s pride. I couldn’t agree more. It is true that girls like gift, and they like expensive gifts from men. But some men used this to get some control of the girls (and sad but true, but some girls can be controlled by things). So I have rule : never received gifts that you can’t afford by yourself. I can buy this capelet by myself, but I let him bought it from me. Just because it’s nice to receive things and to give things. It shows that we are two human being that needed appreciation and a feel-good feeling of giving gifts.

Now
… I need ideas for christmas gift..

the comfort fashion September 10, 2010

Filed under: fashion — chita @ 4:01 pm

Recently, I become tired of the Levi’s I used to wear. Sure, blue jeans is a safe piece. It can goes with almost any tops and jacket, but it’s not really comfortable. This few months I visited cities like Jogja, Bali and Semarang, all with hot and humid weather. Jeans are not an option there, so I get out of my safe zone and trying to find other bottoms to work with the weather :

1. the comfortable pants : this very pants saved my days in Semarang, I feel comfortable all day long. This was a size bigger than mine but the string helps. I wear it high waisted way.

mark & spencer linen pants

mark & spencer Indigo Linen pant

and I bought this one also, this pants can be wear casually like the pic below, or if my way, high waisted and vintage belted with loose shirt. super comfortable and according to Nurul, this is the most perfect pants I ever wear. (thank God because the price was choking)

Mango pants

2. the summer dress : Bali is the perfect place to wear summer dress without bothering to cover your chest, arms (or even stomach and butt in some case), I bought lots of summer dress in the local market, they’re so cheap ($3 – $5) and very breezy. In Bandung, I wear them with jacket, cardigans and camisole.

summer dress for hot summer night

I wear this one for an art exhibition in Jogja, the night was so crowded and hot, thank God for my airy dress.

Gaudi sheer dress

I love this one, also in Gaudi’s but I didn’t buy it. Regret comes too late.

Gaudi flowery summer dress

3. the airy blouse

I have pieces of blouse, if not sheer then loose. They’re a perfect combination with high waisted pants and jeans. The look is casual, chic but effortless. This one below was the most amazing blouse I ever touch. It was so soft, airy and when it brushes the wind it flows so gracefully. I fall in love with this one and swipe my card to bought it (I know. ugh)

Mango Seda Silk blouse

4. comfort party dress : Kebaya sure an amazing piece of party dress that show grace and classy sexy. But wearing those delicate brocade and corset and batik that wrap your body so tight you wish you were a boy, sometimes are very tiring. So for my friend, Sally, engagement party, I chose this silk batik dress in pink hues. It’s loose but still show a womanly silhouette like the neckline, the wrist and ankles. Perfect and I don’t have to worry if the “I can’t breath” episode with kebaya will happen in this dress.

Rita Zola Batik

5. the comfort shoes : high heels are like the devil, it’s beautiful and sexy and appealing and OH MY GOD it hurts like hell!!! On my daily, I wear sandals and my Sanuk (bless the designer for this super comfortable sandals-not shoes), but for formal wear, high heels are what I used to wear, so when I found this formal-look strappy wedges I almost jump in joy. ( It goes with my pink batik dress).

Charles & Keith pink strap wedges

Sanuk Sandals, not shoes

like the saying, women looks confident if they feel comfortable in their clothes. Well, I don’t know about the confident, but I’m feeling un-stressed in these clothes and footwear.

The Young Victoria (2009)

Directed by Jean Marc Valee, starring Emily Blunt as Victoria, Rupert Friend as Prince Albert and Paul Bettany as Lord Melbourne. This is the dramatization as Victoria first year as a queen, and the love story between her and Albert. Costume designed by Sandy Powell and from the beginning of the movie, we see the difference in Victoria’s gown. More light and cheerful color like light yellow with flowers when she was still a young princess and more sophisticated like deep green and purple when she was a queen. They have great cast and script, but what is really struck me was the amazing costumes, settings and the details in each movie. The costumes, the make ups and the setting make a perfect picture in every frame.

going to the King's Birthday

see how each characters costume in this scene is harmonious. Vitoria pale yellow dress and her mother lime green dress and Conroy deep green suit is in the same color palette.

walking in the garden with Albert and Dash

this is the scene when Victoria had a talk with Albert, who is told by his uncle to allure Victoria by having her favorites as him too , Victoria seems bored, but when Albert decided to said what on his mind, “I like Schubert, I know you don’t but I do!” Victoria smiles and says, “I don’t mind Schubert”. Albert blue coat, fur and scarf is matching with Victoria’s baby blue bonnet and turquoise ribbon belt. Victoria’s scarf is match with her silk embroidery dress and Albert’s hat. But what most important both costumes is match with the scenery. Gorgeous!

Victoria just had a talk with the prime minister

Victoria  beige and red stripped dress is in harmony with the room’s interior. Red velvet coach and gold furnishing, also the carpet and red and golden marble coffee table.

into an accident bump with Lord Conroy

The scene is took place in an empty hall, when the queen accidentally bump into Lord Conroy. The hall room is painted green with gold framed paintings, really match the queen’s deep green gown and gold jewelery.

The coronation

Here the scene is dominated with rich red, gold, white and dash of black.

with her mother and Conroy

these three characters outfit is in a beautiful color palette, the queen’s mother green and red-maroon stripped collar and belt is goes with Victoria’s pink-beige-light maroon dress and cape, and also with Conroy’s burgundy coat.  I love the colorpalette and also how the stripped pattern dress in both two women (three actually if you see the lady beside queen’s mother) didn’t clash but support each other.

the cast

Victoria  in her wedding gown. I also love the details in Prince Albert and Lord Melbourne’s outfit.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

The queen bright blue and white lace is a match with the prince dark navy blue suits and his blue collar suede. I love the details in prince’s suits and the queen’s jewelery.

Today, me and my friend Anggi decided to meet on Ngopi Doeloe. We supposed to do our thesis, but instead we’re blogging and wordpressing and twittering. Here is she, the future famous fashion designer ;) . She was a fashion designer for Every ( a sister label to Invictus) and she have this cool sense of fashion, inspired by 80′s fashion. I like it, she’s different. Not everybody can pull a high waisted jeans and zebra printed tops, or a mini skirt with 80′s blouse (you know, the one with pads) ;)

shawl is the best accesories ever. You can wear it anytime, with any outfit and any occasion. if your outfit is a bit dull, put a shawl and voila, tres chic! I have so much shawl, I can’t help it. My newest shall I bought it on the blog, the brand is cotton ink, and it’s not too expensive. My shawl called Krey (I assume because it was cut like a window blind). I chose Sap Green for the color, and immediately like it when it delivered to my door step.

I just think it would be helpful if it comes with the how-to wear guide, because the shape  kinda weird, it can be thrown in several ways. My sister, who also ordered the shawl in different series, got frustated on how to wear it right. she find it though on the 50th attempt, and it looks lovely (she had in shocking pink color).

last weekend I wore it with my sister’s patterned top and my grey mango bag Banyoh gave me last month. I love the bag, I stuffed everything on there. My ixus, notebook charger, agenda, makeup purse and sometimes munchies. But sometime it killed me to find my car keys in there. (all the things are jumbled)

anyway, this is my first post showing me and my outfit. I usually don’t like outfit I wear, but I inspired with my friend blog, bini, that I decided to dress up for this post. It’s not as chic as hers. It will never be as chic as her, she’s so great with fashion, while I still clinging on my levi’s for every occasion. haha.

As I received my latest Vogue Magazine, I can help but let out a little gasp. It’s the supermodels issues!!!! the cover girls are Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodionova, Jourdan Dunn, Caroline Trentini, Anna Jagodsinzka, Isabella Fontana, Lara Stone, Raquel Zimmerman. The issue filled with articles like ‘supermodel and the boyfriends’, ‘model off duty’, interview with top supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Karen Elson. Also, Natalia Vodianova roleplay photoshoot as supermodels like Twiggy, Veruscha, Penolope Tree and Lauren Hutton.

Also, an interview with the legendary photographer, Steven Meisel, by Jonathan Van Meter. It just came to my acknowledgement that he’s the ‘famous model maker’, he ‘found’ them, this included Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Amber Valetta, Natalia Vodionova, Jessica Stam, Karen Elson, Agyness Deyn, Liya Kebede, Coco Rocha and many more. To put it right, he’s the one who made them supermodels. And he shot beautifully too!!

I know some say that this issue of Vogue kind of shallow (who cares about the models??), but when I read it through, I think what they trying to say is, that the condition change. there were years when models is the designer’s muse. they were the inspiration, as Lauren Hutton said over brunch with other younger models, years ago modelling is considering as an art, but now it’s all about the money, plus it’s boring to see tv star and celebrity in the cover. (duh, blake lively?). But I think, not all are bad, I like March 2009 issue, with Michelle Obama on the cover, it’s inspiring to see her and all the woman featured on the articles (the power issue).

anyway, shallow or not, fashion is meant to be beautiful and these beautiful people (I tried not to sound too envious), put the last piece of puzzle in the designer imagination.

I always enjoy Vogue, especially the photoshoot and the classy articles.

haute couture. April 4, 2009

Filed under: fashion — chita @ 5:29 am

karena majalah yang gua baca religiously adalah Vogue, gua sedikit banyak tahu tentang tingkat appreciation seseorang terhadap fashion. well, it’s high if  a piece of skirt worth 3.000 dollar.  Lalu, kadang-kadang kalo liat model dengan dress haute couture, gua bingung. apa itu sekedar istilah buat baju yang dibuat khusus untuk satu orang? apa bedanya sama penjahit/ tailor biasa?

nah, Vogue October 2008 memuat features tentang dunia haute couture, Handmade’s Tale written by Hamish Bowle.

Berapa harga sebuah gaun couture? hohoho..

Oh bajunya kereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!!!!!!
